Kayaking
Kayaking has become a big sport in the U.S. especially in Northern Michigan. Kayaking is great on Spider Lake because there are enforced quiet times on the lake from morning to 11am and 7:30 pm to dusk. This is the best time to kayak with blissful nature all around.
Start: Ranch Rudolf
End: Bridge Pond, Brown Bridge Quiet Area
Distance: about 3 or 4 miles
Description: On 17 Mar 2010, with snow runoff filling the streams and rivers, the lakes still frozen, my 15 year old daughter and I kayaked down a fast moving Boardman River from Ranch Rudolf to the Brown Bridge Pond. It was a challenging 4 mile stretch but we did it, the first ones during the year! Folks outside their cabins stood in shock as we rounded the corner past their cabins...they did not expect to see folks on the river in March. When it is summer, the Boardman is a lazy and slow moving stretch of water that Ranch Rudolf has "tubers" go down the river. Try this run, lots of wildlife, and interesting landscape.
